Arkansas Blues
The purpose of this blog will be to document my thoughts and opinions on current events from a leftist social, political, and economic perspective. I used to publish under the blog title "Cadron Valley Chronicle" after an area near my hometown of Conway, Arkansas. That blog published pieces from a libertarian perspective that wasn't clearly distinguished as left or right politically. I have since come to take leftist politics more seriously and now firmly hold leftist and progressive political ideas and beliefs. I would consider myself a democratic socialist or simply a socialist. However, given the current state of politics in America, I would very likely vote for a straight Democratic ticket regardless of any differences in my personal beliefs from candidates. Also, some of my personal opinions and beliefs regarding the nature of leftist politics may not strictly adhere to all prescribed leftist political ideas simply because individual differences in opinions don't build up to a perfect singular political philosophy.
The title of this blog refers to myself and others who are leftists but living in this deeply red state that has more similarities to a Middle Eastern nation under Sharia law than it does to a progressive nations of Western Europe or even coastal states here in America. It's easy to feel that promoting leftist politics in Arkansas is an exercise in futility, but there have been occasions in recent memory where Arkansas had Democrats has U.S. Senators and House Representatives and two of the most popular governors in recent memory were prominent Democrats. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that the Arkansas state legislature is more likely to push for laws that ban all abortions or arm teachers than those that promote fair housing practices or provide funds for children's healthcare.
While I have been pushed to the left theoretically, practically I have to live in a world where liberal and moderate ideas are normally applied to policies and laws. Part of being an adult is making compromises in order to function in society, but everyone is capable of holding their own beliefs and opinions regarding what is politically right and wrong and whether or not those ideas are relevant to real applications. Incremental change, however, is something I believe in. I am supportive of Bernie Sanders to be the Democratic nominee in 2020, but I would vote for any Democratic primary winner that becomes the candidate.
Again, given the prevailing political norms and how those have shifted drastically to the right over the last few years, I think that leftists, or those who care about people without deferring to racial or religious traits but who care about them for their shared struggle to maintain a decent quality of life under an oppressive capitalist neoliberal regime, should promote their ideals with the same brazen intensity and sincerity as those on the right.
I hope my blog has some visitors, and those visitors will take heed of my ideas and share their own thoughts on them. Thank you.
